The Technical Director of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Christopher Nwadei, said the federation would surpass its performance in the 2019 edition of the African Games in Morocco.

Nwadei, in an exclusive interview on Wednesday, revealed that 12 weightlifters would represent the federation in this year’s African Games in Ghana.

Nigerian weightlifters won a total of 47 medals at the last edition in 2019 in Morocco.

“Nigerian weightlifters won 16 gold medals, 13 silver medals, and 18 bronze medals, making a total of 47 medals.

“Nigeria finished second in the weightlifting medal table,” he said.

According to Nwadei, the lifters will continue to win more medals any time they represent Nigeria.

“Our target is to win more medals and gather enough points that will give us the opportunity to feature in other international tournaments.

“The lifters will do their best to make the country proud. We have been putting up good performances whenever we go out to represent the country,” Nwadei said.

He said the athletes will resume camp anytime to intensify their training ahead of the tournament in Ghana.

The 13th African Games will be held in Ghana from March 8 to March 23.
