Antananarivo will remain the home of the FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup for two more editions after FIBA confirmed Madagascar as host for 2026 and 2027. This year’s tournament will run from 3 to 6 December at the Palace of Culture and Sports.

The agreement extends Madagascar’s hosting sequence to four consecutive editions. It also gives the country a chance to defend an exceptional double: Madagascar won both the men’s and women’s continental titles in 2024 and repeated the sweep in 2025.

Key dates and venue

  • 2026 Africa Cup: 3–6 December
  • Host city: Antananarivo, Madagascar
  • Venue: Palace of Culture and Sports
  • 2027 edition: also awarded to Madagascar, with dates to be confirmed

The men’s and women’s national-team competitions will again share the programme. FIBA has not yet published the complete field or detailed match schedule, so those elements should be treated as pending rather than assumed from previous editions.

Keeping the event in one venue offers practical continuity. Organisers already understand the half-court setup, event presentation and spectator flow required for 3×3, while visiting teams return to a familiar location. That does not remove the logistical demands of a continental tournament, but it reduces the uncertainty that comes with moving to an untested host.

Why Madagascar has become central to African 3×3

Madagascar’s case is not based on hosting alone. Back-to-back men’s and women’s titles have made the country the competitive reference point for African 3×3. The prospect of a third consecutive sweep will give the 2026 edition a clear sporting narrative before the participating teams are even confirmed.

The format also suits an environment where basketball culture can meet a compact, festival-style event. FIBA’s version of 3×3 places two teams of three on a half-court, with a faster rhythm and shorter game structure than five-on-five basketball. Continental cups are the leading regional championships for national teams and form part of the pathway to global events.

For rival federations, the December date provides a fixed target for selection and preparation. Madagascar will have home support and proven experience, but the same continuity also gives opponents a clear benchmark: beating the host in Antananarivo is now the most direct way to signal a shift in the balance of African 3×3.

The immediate calendar is simple. The Palace of Culture and Sports will stage the 2026 competition from 3–6 December; the 2027 edition follows under the same hosting agreement. Team lists, draws and daily fixtures remain the next official details to watch for.
