AFCON 2023: Ivory Coast wants to loan Hervé Renard

Ivory Coast, which separated from its coach Jean-Louis Gasset before realizing that it was qualified for the knockout stages of the AFCON, is trying an unprecedented move: having its former coach Hervé Renard loaned by the French Football Federation, to complete the competition.

The Ivorian Football Federation had decided to part ways with Jean-Louis Gasset, and his deputy Ghislain Printant, following the defeat against Equatorial Guinea.

As reported by French media L’Equipe this Thursday, Ivorian leaders have the idea of calling Hervé Renard to the rescue. But there’s a problem, Hervé Renard currently occupies the position of coach of the French women’s team. We would therefore have to obtain, in some way, the loan of Hervé Renard for the end of the AFCON!

Never before seen, which could however lead to an extraordinary story. Since the announcement of Gasset’s departure, the Ivorian selection has been entrusted to Emerse Fae, former player of FC Nantes and OGC Nice. How will the French Football Federation react to Ivory Coast’s request? Can it agree to give in to its coach for a few weeks?
