AFCON 2023: Joe Aribo optimistic about Nigeria’s goal-scoring capabilities in AFCON

Southampton midfielder Joe Aribo exudes confidence in Nigeria’s ability to enhance their goal-scoring prowess as they advance to the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations. Aribo, aged 27, played a crucial role, featuring for 63 minutes in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau, securing the Super Eagles’ second spot in Group A.

Despite being initially utilized as a substitute in the opener against Equatorial Guinea, Aribo’s first start in the tournament showcased his contribution to the team’s success. Nigeria, with a lineup boasting numerous top forwards, managed to score only three goals across the three group games, falling short of securing the top spot due to goal difference.

Aribo remains optimistic about the team’s goal-scoring capabilities, expressing confidence that they will significantly improve as the tournament progresses. Looking ahead to the round of 16 fixture against Cameroon on January 27, Aribo emphasizes the team’s defensive strength, highlighting their ability to keep clean sheets and maintain solidity at the back.
