Chippa United’s South African goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, the current first-choice goalkeeper for the Super Eagles at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023, has dispelled the notion that he is now Nigeria’s primary goalkeeper.

Nwabali expressed that he sees himself as not yet the number one choice, emphasizing that he views the opportunity to represent his country positively and is committed to delivering his best whenever he is selected to play.

He mentioned that he doesn’t feel pressure while guarding the goal for the Super Eagles and is content with his performance in the competition so far, having kept two clean sheets in three games.

Nwabali urged Nigeria’s football fans to remain calm, assuring them that the goals will come, especially with players like Victor Osimhen in the team. He emphasized the team’s focus on securing three points, and he expressed joy over the team’s qualification for the next round after defeating Guinea Bissau 1-0.

The Super Eagles garnered seven points from three matches, finishing second in the group behind Equatorial Guinea, who also accumulated seven points with a superior goal difference. Nigeria is set to face arch-rival Cameroon in the knockout stage of the competition.
