This Editorial Policy explains the standards used by Africa Sports Live when preparing news and other editorial content.
Accuracy and verification
We aim to publish information that is accurate, clearly presented and supported by verifiable evidence. Dates, scores, fixtures, venues, participants, competition rules, transfers, injuries and quotations should not be stated as fact without a reliable basis.
Primary sources are preferred whenever practical. These may include official federations, leagues, competition organisers, clubs, teams, athlete representatives and published event documents. Secondary sources can provide useful context, but important claims should be checked against the strongest available evidence.
Attribution and quotations
Facts, statements and quotations taken from another source should be attributed clearly. We do not present another publication’s original reporting as our own. Direct quotations must preserve the speaker’s meaning and should not be invented, reconstructed or materially altered.
News, analysis and opinion
News reporting should separate confirmed facts from interpretation. Analysis may explain context and significance, but uncertainty must be made clear. Opinion content, if published, should be labelled so readers can distinguish it from straight reporting.
Rumours and unconfirmed claims
Rumours are not treated as confirmed news. When an unconfirmed report is genuinely newsworthy, its status and source must be made explicit, and the article should avoid presenting speculation as fact. Anonymous or unverifiable social-media claims are not sufficient evidence on their own.
Corrections
Factual errors are corrected when identified. Material changes may be accompanied by a correction or update note explaining what changed. Minor spelling, grammar, formatting or style edits may be made without a separate notice. Publication and update dates are not changed merely to make older content appear fresh. See our Corrections Policy.
Conflicts of interest and sponsored content
Editorial decisions should not be influenced by personal or commercial interests. A relevant conflict of interest should be disclosed when it could reasonably affect a reader’s assessment of the work.
Paid, sponsored or partner content, if introduced, will be clearly labelled as sponsored, advertising or partner content. It will not be presented as independent editorial reporting.
AI-assisted workflow
Africa Sports Live may use AI-assisted tools to support research organisation, drafting, editing, image production or other publishing tasks. Such tools do not replace source verification or editorial responsibility. AI-generated output must be reviewed for factual accuracy, attribution, clarity and potential fabrication before publication. We do not use AI assistance as a basis for inventing facts, quotations, credentials or reporting from locations where no reporting took place.
